Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Bold Matte lipstick in Fire Coral - £8.99 here

It's been a while since I did a post about make up and truthfully it's because I haven't tried many new products. I've been sticking to old favourites and repurchasing things I previously owned and liked just because I found that a lot of new products I've tried, I've not really liked. They weren't bad per say but they definitely weren't anything to shout about. So last week I popped into Boots with my best friend and we ended up swatching a few of the Maybelline 14 hour and 24 hour lipsticks. Since they were on a 3 for 2 deal I took advantage of Christina wanting to buy two colours and bought myself one. As you all probably know by now I like bright lips. I feel it's one feature I can really pull off brights on and so Fire Coral ended up in my shopping bag.

It's a double ended lipstick - that is a liquid lipstick with a doe foot applicator on one end and a balm on the other. You apply the colour as you would with a standard lipstick but be careful and precise as it dries quickly and stains like a beast. I usually hang around with my mouth open for around a minute until the lipstick feels slightly hard and dry like a face mask would before putting on the balm. I find if I put the balm on once as soon as it's on I rarely feel it and haven't reapplied the balm at all after that initial application. It's definitely matte but the balm gives it a demi matte finish until it settles in a bit an hour or so after application.

Now, you're probably a bit hesitant to believe the 24 hour claim on this lipstick and I'll have to give it to you, it's not the full 24 hour claim. I have been telling everyone it's 14 hour and while that was me getting it wrong, I will tell you 14 hours is what this baby gives. I get 8 hours of wear through eating, drinking, licking my lips and smoking with only slight wear showing where the lips meet around the eighth hour. Twelve hours after application it is still on my lips but it looks slightly worn now and I could do with a top up. The swatch on my hand is after twelve hours of wear, washing my hands eight times and the rubbing of my jumper sleeve. It's worn in the middle but the colour is very much there.

For £8.99 it's thoroughly worth it and I'll be repurchasing as well as purchasing some of the other colours in the collection.

    1. I really like it for the colour and staying power. Some people find it too drying and the balm too hard to work with but it does the job I'm after xo.

  2. I have tried one of these, I had it sent to me from the USA before they were released here...needless to say I hated it - the formala of the balm was disgusting. I had to toss it out after only one use! Just shows what one person loves another doesnt!!

    1. I don't particularly like the balm either. It's hard to put on, thick and gooey but it does the job I suppose. I'll be trying different balms with it to make it more workable.

  3. I went to Superdrug today for make up sponges and came out with this in three colours! The Infinite Coral is a gorgeous colour - I love a bright lip!
