We're getting married!

Monday, 3 June 2013

Long time readers will know that boyfriend and I have been engaged for three years now and we've been talking about getting married for the entirety of those three years. Thanks to a distinct lack of funds, it never being the right time to plan a wedding and real life things getting in the way we haven't ever set a date. We did think October 2012 was a good date before it came and went and still no plan was set in stone. That is until now. 21st June 2014 is the date. It'll be our five year anniversary and hell, it's one less date to remember!

So the plan so far is that we're having a small wedding of 30-40 guests (mostly my family and mutual friends as big issues have happened with his who wouldn't attend if they were forced at gun point) at the local beautiful registry office and then on to a restaurant for a lovely meal. Nothing too fancy or huge as I don't have the money to drop £10k on the 'dream wedding' and also because we're not really the center of attention couple. A huge fuss with crisp white linen, lots of expensive hired items and a big formal affair would just make us feel a bit out of place. So we're going for small, elegant and casual.

However I have decided that I will be wearing an ivory traditional wedding dress, I will have bridesmaids and the groomsmen will be wearing suits. I may compromise on the lavish ceremony and reception but I will never compromise on style. So while I have quite a bit planned in my head and on secret Pinterest boards I am still in the process of making sure everything is available and affordable before we book things. But we have a year. A year is a good place to start.

  1. Congratulations :)

You're getting married a few months before us, 17th August 2014 for us!

We Are having the posh, proper wedding and I'm flipping terrified haha. I'd never planned on the big deal but one came up on groupon, a deal too good to miss, and we havetoo much family for something small... So I gotta do that walking down the aisle (in a hotel, not achurch, tha k goodness) and reception and the whole shebang... I am totally not 'that' girl, but I guess I'll have to make it 'mine'

Congratulations, again, I think 2014 is a Good year to get married! Xx

    1. Thank you!

Congratulations to you too! We originally wanted a big wedding to 'do it right' but after many years of talking we decided that intimate would suit us so much better as I'd be terrified of a big wedding with it all not going to plan as sometimes happens. Your wedding will be terrific though and you know it! All about you and your husband (eee!) celebrating your love with your family.

  2. Aw congratulations, I'm so pleased for you! I'm sure your elegant, intimate wedding will be everything you wish for on the day - big and extravagant isn't always best! The most important thing it having the people you love there and enjoying yourself :) I wish you all the best! xx

    1. I'd love a big barn wedding but sadly the cost just didn't correlate with our incomes and we'd have to save for a few years which we really don't want to do considering we've been engaged for so long as it is. Thank you!

  3. Congratulations! That's so exciting! We're thinking of going for a very easy wedding as well, about 60 people, and most likely in my parent's backyard. I don't want to worry about whether or not the linens are the right colour - the most important thing to us at the end of the day is that we're married!
I wish you all the best and can't wait to hear all about it!

  4. Thank you!Congratulations to you too. When's yours?

I put the guest list at 35-40 but I know it'll be more around 50. I wish I had family with a beautiful garden we could use but sadly in the city we live in there's no such thing in our family so we're making do. The thought of getting married outside under an arch is incredible though!! xo

  8. Congratulations! A 30-40 guest wedding sounds lovely, and I love the idea of getting married on your anniversary. I'm already pretty crummy with dates, so not having to remember an extra one sounds great. I'm still going to try to have our wedding date inscribed on the inside of my wedding band though....

I admit, this post makes me feel about a million times better about myself! Brandon and I have been engaged for almost a year now (and together for over three) and people keep asking us if we've set a date yet. I was starting to feel like a failure because we can't afford a wedding right now!

    1. Don't feel bad! We've been saying we'll do it, running out of money, being made redundant then on sickness for a while - it just isn't possible sometimes but the love carries you through in the relationship regardless and one day it's going to happen and it's going to be spectacular because you've waited for so long for that one moment! xo

  14. Congratulations setting the date! I know how you feel, me and my fiance have been engaged for a couple years now but are seriously tight on cash so there's been no sign of a wedding yet! Although we have recently been discussing the possibility of next year!
