Long time readers will know that boyfriend and I have been engaged for three years now and we've been talking about getting married for the entirety of those three years. Thanks to a distinct lack of funds, it never being the right time to plan a wedding and real life things getting in the way we haven't ever set a date. We did think October 2012 was a good date before it came and went and still no plan was set in stone. That is until now. 21st June 2014 is the date. It'll be our five year anniversary and hell, it's one less date to remember!
So the plan so far is that we're having a small wedding of 30-40 guests (mostly my family and mutual friends as big issues have happened with his who wouldn't attend if they were forced at gun point) at the local beautiful registry office and then on to a restaurant for a lovely meal. Nothing too fancy or huge as I don't have the money to drop £10k on the 'dream wedding' and also because we're not really the center of attention couple. A huge fuss with crisp white linen, lots of expensive hired items and a big formal affair would just make us feel a bit out of place. So we're going for small, elegant and casual.
However I have decided that I will be wearing an ivory traditional wedding dress, I will have bridesmaids and the groomsmen will be wearing suits. I may compromise on the lavish ceremony and reception but I will never compromise on style. So while I have quite a bit planned in my head and on secret Pinterest boards I am still in the process of making sure everything is available and affordable before we book things. But we have a year. A year is a good place to start.
