Making A House A Home || The Playroom

Thursday, 4 July 2013

When we moved here two and a half years ago we found ourselves very lucky to have two downstairs reception rooms and we found that after about six months we just weren't using the dining room as a dining room. We are very much a 'sit together at the kitchen table' family. We decided that it would be the perfect room for a play room as it's right next to the kitchen and we could hear everything that would be going on. After painting it blue and beige, aligning all their toys and adding a little TV with a VHS player (please tell me you're all old enough to remember VHS tapes?) we and they got bored. There were pen marks and greasy finger stains on the walls and it looked horrendous.

So with some leftover grey paint from the hall and a new pot of pink paint picked up from B&Q we got to work on painting the opposing walls in one or the other colour. Some little decorative pieces were added such as a pink mosquito net bed canopy for their bed that they use as a day bed, a wall decal picked up from eBay, a bright pink shaggy rug to save their little feet on the wood floors that we've had for years and was a swift nab from my office and more storage boxes to house the smaller toys and we were pretty much done. We still need to add a big pink throw to the chair that matches my living room sofas but doesn't fit in there, a few shelves and some hooks in the walls for framed artwork but that'll all come as and when. Right now it's liveable, prettier and the girls are in love with it.

So far we've had an indoor picnic on the rug when the weather was too bad to go outside, played princesses in the 'castle bed' and all got on the bed to watch Beauty and the Beast with some popcorn that I obviously burned. What do you think?

  1. Loving the mosquito net, I wonder if it is being used as a wedding veil like mine used to?! VHS, classic! Tiny feet can trample all over them without fear! Looks to be a really cosy space xx
